Spalding County Local News

Good morning, Spalding County!
I usually keep the Grapevine strictly focused on Spalding County, but the Blue Angels are a pretty good reason to look across the county line.
They’re headlining Air Dot Show Atlanta at Falcon Field in Peachtree City this Saturday and Sunday, October 31 and November 1, alongside an impressive lineup of military aircraft and aerobatic performers.
If you’ve never been to an air show, watching those jets roar overhead in tight formation is something else. It’s loud, thrilling, and the kind of outing I think plenty of y’all would enjoy this Halloween weekend.
Tickets must be purchased before you arrive, so grab yours online before heading over.

That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.
Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.
Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.
New customers get 15% off their first order — applied automatically, no code needed.
Three people whose work reaches across Griffin’s community organizations, businesses and churches received a public thank-you at the Griffin Men of Action’s annual banquet Saturday, October 24.
Jewel Walker-Harps, Charles Burden and the Rev. Dr. Cleopatrick Lacy were recognized for their contributions to Griffin and Spalding County. Walker-Harps serves as secretary of the Spalding County Collaborative’s 2026 board. Burden is affiliated with Burden’s Funeral Home of Griffin. Lacy served Mt. Zion Baptist Church until his retirement in 2024.
Author and poet Joshua Dickerson delivered the featured address, focusing on service and the difference individuals can make for their neighbors. Organizers also emphasized encouraging younger residents to follow the honorees’ example by finding their own ways to contribute.
An unannounced state inspection found Spalding County Animal Care & Control meeting every applicable requirement reviewed on October 20, according to a county announcement.
The visit followed a complaint about shelter conditions and cat care. The inspector found clean cat housing and litter boxes, fresh food and water, and animals that appeared well cared for. The review also covered sanitation, records, ventilation, temperature control and conditions throughout the facility.
Georgia’s Department of Agriculture oversees licensed shelters through its Companion Animal/Equine Program. Government shelters also submit monthly intake and outcome reports, providing another way for residents to follow shelter operations.
The findings describe conditions at the time of the visit. County leaders welcomed the results while identifying continued improvement as the department’s goal.
Tuesday, November 3, will be a remote learning day for all Griffin-Spalding County School System students. Families should plan for students to complete schoolwork away from campus.
The date appears on the approved 2026–27 calendar, which also schedules district professional learning for staff that day. November 3 counts as an instructional day in the first semester. Families should watch school and teacher messages for assignment details, materials and access instructions.
Now is a good time to review childcare arrangements and check any device or connection needs. Questions about classroom plans should go to the school or teacher.
Another date to flag: Tuesday, January 5, 2027, is scheduled for the same combination of remote student learning and staff professional development. Marking both dates now can help caregivers plan ahead.
